IS THERE ANYTHING TO HELP PREVENT THE RECURRENCE OF NASAL POLYPS?
Nasal polyps (small protrusions) may be caused by chronic inflammation of the mucosal lining that protects the nasal passages, the sinus cavities may also become inflamed. The mucosal lining of the nasal passage helps to protect the passages from environmental pollutants and are often bombarded with foreign particles that can cause inflammation. When air travels through the nasal cavity it is warmed and filtered by the cilia (hair) of the nose. If a foreign particle is detected it is pushed out through the nose or to the back of the throat to be cleared from the sensitive area. If this area is continuously irritated then nasal polyps may become a problem. These growths may affect your ability to breath and cause obstruction to the airways of the nose and sinuses.
