Jamu Juice Recipe

Indonesian Jamu helps to stimulate Agni (digestive fire). As a rejuvenating tonic, taken daily it can ease symptoms of stagnation and dampness. Also contains lemons, turmeric, apple cider vinegar and some other secret ingredients such as umeboshi plums for a sour starter for good bacteria in the gut. A little heat from cayenne and this will get your day started in a good way! I love the tools of naturopathic and herbal medicine, I am constantly amazed at the effectiveness that small changes can make to your long term health. Adding Jamu to your daily routine is yet another way to improve vitality! 

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 inch knob Turmeric
  • 50mls apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 4 Umeboshi plums
  • lemon juice (1 whole lemon)
  • 8 kaffir lime leaves
  • 1 inch knob of ginger
  • lime juice (1 whole lime)
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • pinch cayenne

DIRECTIONS

  • place all ingredients (except apple cider vinegar) in a saucepan and gently bring to a simmer for 5 minutes
  • allow to cool
  • add apple cider vinegar
  • bottle and allow to ferment for 1 week
  • strain and refrigerate
  • drink daily (10-20mls)
  • add to warm water, smoothies and juices
