Excess Hair Oil

Is your excess hair oil is staining my pillow!  If the stains are not being caused by styling gels then it is possible your husband may produce an excess of hair oil. This may be contributed to having high levels of oils (sebum) excreted from the skin, sebaceous glands and pores of the scalp.

CAUSES OF EXCESS HAIR OIL

  • Excessive consumption of dietary fats (Lipids and Triglycerides) these are foods such as deep fried, fatty and oily foods.
  • Deficiency of essential fatty acids (EFA) may contribute to excessively oily skin. Increasing foods such as fish, nuts and seeds, avocados, raw olive oil and flaxseed oil may have a beneficial effect for him.
  • Male pattern baldness may cause oily hair in men; this is because as the surface area of the hair shrinks the sebaceous glands continue to secrete Sebum at the same rate as previously, increasing the likelihood of oily hair.
  • Jojoba oil (applied topically) may alleviate oily hair by preventing the build-up of excessive sebum on the scalp (by covering the scalp with Jojoba Oil it is believed that the natural production of Sebum may decline). Add a few drops of the essential oil Calendula (marigold) or Rosemary to help decrease the production of excess oil.
